Chong Wei moves into the quarter-finals with ease
Top seed Datuk Lee Chong Wei was at his simple best as he stormed into the men's singles quarter-finals in the the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya, Kuching on Thursday.
The Malaysian smashed his way to a 21-18, 21-16 win over Hong Kong's Hu Yun in a second round match at the Sradium Perpaduan in Petrajaya in Kuching in only 27 minutes as he stayed on course for his 12th Malaysia Open title.
Chong Wei's opponent in Friday's quarter-finals is little known South Korean Jeon Hyeok-jin. The Korean qualifier beat Frenchman Brice Leverdez in in straight sets 21-13, 21-10 in 30 minutes.
"This is the first time I will be playing the Korean and I am cautious of my opponent. It is one match at a time for me," said Chong Wei.
Chinese Lin Dan also had an easy match into the quarter-finals, defeating Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-8, 21-13 in 31 minutes. In the quarter-finals he will battle Indonesian youngsters Christie Jonatan.
Christie defeated Taiwan's Chou Tien Chen 21-23, 21-17, 21-19 in 69 minutes.
