Chong Wei - Lin Dan dream final in Malaysia Open

It will be a dream Lee Chong Wei-Lin Dan final in the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open Superseries Premier men's singles final at the Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya in Kuching on Sunday.

Eleven-time champion Chong Wei made the final with a masterful display against Hong Kong's Vincent Wong Wing Ki for a 21-12, 21-9 win in 39 minutes - staying on track for his 12th Malaysian Open title.

Earlier Lin Dan, who is seeded seven, battled for 83 minutes before he could subdue a stubborn fifth seeded Son Wan-ho of Korea in a three-set thriller, prevailing 27-25, 19-21, 21-19.

"This is the same venue where I beat Lin Dan in the final in 2006...and 11 years later we meet again at the same stage. I want to win my 12th Malaysia Open title and I hope to do my best again," said Chong Wei.

Lin Dan, who remembers the epic 2006 final which he lost but does not remember the venue.

The Chinese ace looked dazed when reminded that it was the same Stadium Perpaduan where he lost the final after leading 20-13 in the decider. Chong Wei staged a remarkable comeback for a 23-21 to take the title.

"This year's final is special in many ways. The whole world is watching the Malaysia Open final and brings us together after the Rio Olympics."

The two go into the final for the 36th time with Lin Dan holding the edge 24-11 in the head to head count.

Lin Dan was pleased with the crowd support he received in his match against Wan-ho but is also aware that the home fans will be rooting for Chong Wei in the final on Sunday.
